(I can’t believe I haven’t mentioned this earlier! ::smacks forehead::)
Every Monday of this month, different members of Etsy’s Plush Team will be selling their handmade plushies for the low price of $5 each. There are already lots of fabulous $5 plushies already listed in Plush Team’s Etsy shop right now. My Mini Ghosties will be $5/each and available this Monday. I will post here again when they are listed in the shop.
One of my favourite artists is Junko Mizuno, an illustrator (list of books she’s illustrated) and toy designer (list of toys she’s designed) from Japan. Her work is super cute with a slightly evil edge, which is a hard combination for me to resist! I have been following and collecting her work for a few years now, so I’m always excited when she releases something new. Earlier this month she released a set of mini figures called “Pure Trance“. I picked a few of them up, and here are my pics of them below. (There are still more I want to get!)
Yuki & Miki — Junko Mizuno’s Pure Trance blind-box (2/20)
“When twin sisters Yuki & Miki combine their mysterious superpowers they can practice magic. If you feed the skull fresh food, their powers become even stronger.”
Junko Mizuno Dunny, Series 5 (1/50) (This one looks inspired from spaghetti & meatballs, lol!)
Umeko & Takeko — Junko Mizuno’s Pure Trance blind-box (3/20)
“Umeko & Takeko are artificial nurses created by the Director. Takeko has a calm personality whereas Umeko is a bit of a baby. They both have superior abilities in operations and their nurses’ caps are not removable as they are part of their bodies.”
Yasue the Wrestler— Junko Mizuno’s Pure Trance blind-box (2/20)
“When Yasue The Wrestler was a student at the Ikebukuro School of Martial Arts she and her friends were into blackmail, assault, gambling and drugs. Now she has washed her hands of her sinful ways and works as a professional wrestler at the female wrestling bar “Power Angel”.”
Above are pics of the Junko Mizuno toys I already own. They wanted to be shown, too! 😀
[On the left] Chika (3 versions: Peach, Mint and Grape) from Junko Mizuno’s Miznotic Fantasy Series
[On the right] Nurse Flash-it from the Qee Ox-Op Series 3 (5/30)
She’s having a solo show at the Magic Pony in Toronto this month, so I’m going to try and check it out if I get the chance.
Plush Team‘s challenge for May/June was to create food — out of fabric. The participating team members were divided into groups, each group having their own “secret ingredient” which they had to use in the design of their plush food. My secret ingredient was pom poms. I had a few ideas of how I wanted to use pom poms (blueberry pie, sushi with roe, a bunch of grapes, etc) but none of those ideas really felt interesting to me. Then I thought about making a type of dessert that would fit right in at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party! I thought that vanilla & chocolate cookies with colourful icing and pom poms on top would be cute, yummy, and go with my self-given Alice In Wonderland theme. Lo and behold, the Set of 10 Mad Tea Party Cookies was made! 😀
They are perfect for children’s play time, dress-up tea parties, party favours, an interesting conversational piece in a trendy apartment, or perfect for a snack if you are planning on travelling down the rabbit hole. 😉 They are for sale in my Etsy shop.
I was inspired by Samaria Project (who makes the cutest plush owls) when she posted about her craft area on her blog, so I wanted to show off my crafting area too! 🙂 Well, it’s not so much of a “show off” post — it’s more of a pic post. Mostly everything I own is in storage, so I don’t have a lot of nice inspirational elements to personalize my workspace like I would want to. Below is a pic of my current craft area. It’s very tiny and shoved in the corner, but it’s the best I can do in this super small studio apartment. It’s workable, and that’s really all that matters. And it’s an upgrade from the floor/sofa, so bonus! 😉
I made notes on this pic on Flickr if you want to know exactly what’s on my desk. 😉
Below is a stack of beautiful felt fabric in all the colours of the rainbow. This is my arsenal. And then there’s my buddy on the right — the Janome DC3050. I love my sewing machine, which was a present from my Mom. 🙂
Below is how my craft table looked a few days ago. I love it when it looks like this because it means I’m deeply involved in a project. I completely clean and tidy everything up before starting a new project. I like to stay as organized as I can in the crafting chaos. 🙂
Below are some “teaser” pics of projects I’ve been working on this week.
What crafting area isn’t complete without a mini DVD player? Right now I’m watching one of my all-time favourite movies “Memoirs of a Geisha”. I like the book better, but the movie is just so pretty.
Today I wanted to talk about the new piece of art I just bought from the fantastic artist Cecy Meade! The other day I was perusing the Bear & Bird Boutique & Gallery (where I will have a piece in their Stitch Wars show this summer), and saw that their current show Made In Mexico was online. I looked through their online shop and saw a beautiful original piece by one of my favorite artists Cecy Meade and immediatly bought it. $20 for an original piece of artwork was more than a deal! I have been following Cecy Meade on Flickr for a while now (and have been totally blown away every time I see her work), so to own a piece of her artwork equals happiness for me! ♥
This is the piece I bought. I love the untraditional brown paper, the bright colours and the lines are so bold and confident. She reminds me of a John Kricfalusi (creator of Ren & Stimpy) style of cute girl. I’m very happy to add her to my art collection. 🙂
Orange Hair A Girl by Cecy Meade
Go and check out the work from the Made In Mexico show that is available in Bear & Bird’s online shop. You just might find a piece of art that is both awesome and totally affordable. 🙂 You can also check out Bear & Bird’s Flickr for pics of the whole show.
I’ve added a new product to my Etsy shop: Buttons! To promote the launch of this new product, I am now adding 1 FREE BUTTON to EVERY ORDER! Yes, even if your order is buttons, you still get an extra free button, lol. 🙂 The free button design is exclusive and not available to buy separately. You can see the free button design at the bottom of this post! 😀
The sets being launched today are the Plush Deer Button Set and the Alice In Wonderland Button Set. Each Button Set includes 5 mini pinback buttons with images that were all photographed by me. The buttons measure 1 inch (2.5cm). They are perfect accessories for your bag, purse, tote, coat, jacket, camera strap… you name it. It’s a great way to show your love for either Plush Deer or Alice In Wonderland! 😀
The Plush Deer Button Set features these plush deer:
– Marmalade Deer (orange)
– Lime Soda Deer (green)
– Red Velvet Cake Deer (red)
– Chocolate Caramel Deer (brown)
– Banana Blueberry Deer (yellow/aqua)
The Alice In Wonderland Button Set features photos of:
– White Rabbit Pipos BJD
– Plush Chocolate Caramel Deer + Custom Alice Pullip

– Alice Pullip legs
– Re-Ment playing cards set
The Alice set is *extremely* limited right now (in fact I only have whatever is in my shop at the moment — I ended up giving away a few freebies to friends + family before releasing them, but I will make more Alice sets if they do well). I have a lot of the Plush Deer Button Set in stock. The White Rabbit buttons (pictured below) are the ones that come FREE WITH EVERY ORDER in my Etsy shop! 😀
